Yesterday, on the premises of the "October" electric locomotive depot, another monument was officially unveiled in a solemn ceremony. The steam locomotive EU 677—49 completed its final, peaceful journey and now occupies a permanent place of honor on a pedestal made of ordinary railway tracks. Indeed, not every locomotive is granted such honors. This one truly deserved them. Its heroic history began in July 1942 at the Ozerelye station in the Moscow region. It was here that the 10th Steam Locomotive Column of the Special Reserve of the People’s Commissariat of Transport was assembled, consisting entirely of railway workers from the Southern Railway Line. The steam locomotive EU 677—49 was one of the few that continued to serve faithfully despite being damaged by enemy air raids. Its battle route took it through Stalingrad, Orel, Rostov, Kursk, Belgorod, Kharkiv, Kiev, Breslau-on-Oder (now Wrocław), and Berlin. Engineers Alexander Grigoryevich Yakovlev and Ivan Ivanovich Bobryshev, who operated this locomotive, also played a crucial role in its heroic history. From now on, EU 677—49 will serve as a monument to the heroic deeds of the railway workers of the Southern Railway during the Great Patriotic War. At the ceremony, speakers including F. Y. Estis and S. F. Vasilyenko, former leaders of the 10th and 34th Steam Locomotive Columns, engineer Ivan Ivanovich Bobryshev, Southern Railway Director M. S. Konarev, Ukrainian Communist Party Leninist Regional Committee Secretary O. V. Skiba, and Soviet Union Ministry of Transport Deputy Minister P. K. Lemeshchuk addressed the crowd. Pioneers and students from the 23rd Railway School also congratulated the celebrants on this important occasion. **G. Mikhailov** *“Vecherniy Kharkiv” newspaper, May 6, 1975.*
