Modern Style on Klokchovsky Street

At the very beginning of Klokchovsky Street, at number 3, you can find the most beautiful example of the modern style in the city’s architecture. This former tenement building was constructed in 1903 by architect B. M. Korenenko for the merchants S. and Sh. Gulko. The building represents the decorative aspects of this architectural style, as it features ornate patterns featuring animal and plant motifs in both relief and flat designs. A particular highlight is the facade’s plasterwork, which is adorned with numerous mythological symbols. Among the intricate carvings of trees, branches, and fruits, one can find a bud or a cocoon within which lies a toothed dragon that has curled its tail around itself. This is yet another example of a building decorated with mythical creatures. Today, various institutions are located in this building.
