Church of the Assumption, Gorokholin Forest
The history of the Assumption Church in a small village with an unusual name Gorokholin Forest is full of mysteries and mystical events. The village, originally a settlement near the village of Gorokholin, consists of separate houses located in the forest.
In the days of the struggle of Soviet power with religion, the church served as a room for the museum of atheism.
In 1943 the church first appeared here. This small religious building, made of wood, received the name in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. It was here in 1967 passed with shooting several scenes of the acclaimed film "Wii"based on the novel of the same name by the Russian writer N. Gogol. Directed by K. Ershov used the premises of the church for the funeral process.
With mysterious events in 2006, the church burned down. The cause of the fire is the violation of the rules for the operation of the power grid, but local residents associate this event with the filming of the film, because they consider it a bad sign to create a film about the evil spirit within the walls of the operating temple. This event caused refusal to restore the temple in its original form, but served to build a new shrine. The Golden Dome Church of the Assumption, made of red brick, was founded in 2008.
