The Monastery of the Assumption of the Mother of God is in the village of Pogonya. History of the Assumption Monastery

According to legend, in the 18th century the leader Roman with a small squad defeated the army of Khan Baty. And before this battle the governor dreamed of Nikolai the Wonderworker, who ordered not to defend himself, but bravely to attack the enemies. On the territory of this battle in 1634 the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin was built. And on the place where the voevode had a prophetic dream, they built the church of St. Nicholas.

The New Assumption Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the monastery in the village was built on charitable contributionsof eminent noblewomen as a gratitude for the cure received near the face of the Virgin. Bishop Atanasy Sheptytsky proclaimed the image of the miraculous. In the seventies of the 18th century, precious festive decorations and crowns were made on the donations of parishioners, which were destroyed by order of the Austrian Cesar Joseph II.

The temple and the monastery of the Dormition of the Mother of God were rebuilt in the beginning of the 20th century, but in 1946-1950 all this was destroyed by the Communists. The miraculous icon managed to be preserved preserved.

In 1991, the abode was revived. A graceful image was transferred to the newly built monastery chapel. Today, the Assumption Monastery and the temple in the village of Pahonia are one of the largest centers of pilgrimage for Greek Catholic parishioners.
