Tarakanovsky Fort, Tarakanov

The name of the fort was not obtained because of cockroaches, as many believe, first heard its name. Everything is much simpler: the name was given to the village of Tarakanov, in which the fort is located.

This place will impress you not only with legends, but also with its scope. What is only a tunnel located under the outer walls with a length of about 100 meters.

Legends of Tarakanovsky Fort

According to one of the legends, this place has become Ghost Town.They say that ghosts really do exist and have been frightening local residents for many years. Perhaps this is due to the fact that in the early 20th century a lot of soldiers died here and they still can not find peace. Many consider New Dubna fortress to be one of the most mystical places in Ukraine.

History of the Tarakan Fort

Tarakanovo Fort is a vivid example of how you can underestimate your own means of defense. The fortress was built in the late 19th century to protect the western borders of the Russian Empire. From here, the railroad passing by was very well seen. But, during the First World War, the Russians decided that the fort was not particularly needed. Therefore, the fortress was handed over to the Poles practically without a fight. Recovering, the fort decided to return. But it took a lot of work to do this. As a result, the fort, destroyed by its own artillery, was repulsed.

During the Second World War, the New Dubna Fortress was again surrendered to the opponents. At this time - already German invaders. Some legends claim that the Germans here conducted a test of a new secret weapon, as if even nuclear. When it became clear that Germany's surrender was nearing, some Germans poured some of the rooms and the course to them with concrete. It is so strong that it is difficult to unravel it even in our time. Therefore, those places of the Tarakanovo Fort, which can not be visited, cause even more questions.

How to get to Tarakanovo Fort

Find Tarakanovskiy Fort is quite difficult - it's better to ask local residents. In addition, it is better not to walk in these places - no matter how the building collapses. There are many local guides who offer their services.

From the road to the cockroaches you need to turn around the cemetery, get to the railway and turn right to the ground. Then somewhere 800 meters go to the lift and there turn left. A hundred meters away there will be a tunnel, mentioned earlier.
