The beginning of the city of Kherson was laid by Catherine II. Most of the buildings date back to the reign of the tsarist empire. Until now, many interesting architectural structures of that era have survived.

Arsenal - part of the complex of buildings Kherson Fortress. The building is considered the largest of all the rest. Arsenal was built in 1788 by engineer Ivan Strugovshchikov. Construction began in 1784. This is evidenced by a commemorative plaque, which was found here during the reconstruction of the building. Arsenal served as a repository. It housed artillery, weapons and ammunition of the army. The main entrance was decorated with a four-columned portico. It's like symbolized all the power and strengthof not only the building, but the entire army.

In 1812 the arsenal was rebuilt. This need arose after a strong earthquake in 1802. Now the building appeared before the empire-style Kherson people. The portico became six-columned, which gave the building even more power. A little later, an internal reconstruction was carried out. The building was redeveloped to a convict prison.

Today, the landmark is considered to be one of the best architectural monuments of the city. Arsenal retained the power and luxury laid down by the architects. But this is not just a dummy building. It has several city organizations. Nearby you can also visit a few more sights. One of them is the governor's residence.
