Deep Jar

A deep jar is a historical territory that stretches across the expanses of the village of Vigraev (Korsun-Shevchenkovskiy district, Cherkasy region). It is located on the very outskirts of the village, in its south-western part. This area is of great historical importance for Ukraine.

It was here, in the distant 1648, that the famous Korsun battle took placebetween the troops of the Ukrainian hetman Bogdan Khmelnitsky and the Poles, under the leadership of Hetman Nikolai Pototsky.

The confrontation ended in the complete rout of the Polish troops. For the victory of the Cossacks acted even nature itself - the wooded area was a serious obstacle for the enemy and prevented him from turning in full force. The Cossack regiment, led by the registered Cossack Maxim Krivonos, ambushed the Glubokoye Yar. This ambush became decisive in the battle with the hated enemy.

After the victory, the village received its present name, and the yar became known as Rezan. The remains of the trenches dug out by the Cossacks then survived to our times. In 2008, on the site of the Battle of Korsun, a memorial monument was erected.
