The Gorian Rotunda (St. Anne's Church)
The Gorian Rotunda, or as it is also called - the Church of St. Anne, is located in the picturesque area of Transcarpathia - Uzhgorod. It is located on one of the majestic hills of the micro district Goryany, not far from the ruins of an aristocratic palace of the Middle Ages. The history of the appearance of the rotunda and its age is still unknown.
Rotunda is rounded and, as a rule, small in size. The Gorian Rotunda is a unique creation of architecture. The temple is made in the form of a hexagon, the walls of which reach 2.5 meters in thickness.
According to the conducted studies, the structure was erected in the 10th and 11th centuries during the heyday of Romano-Byzantine culture. This is evidenced by materials used in the construction of the church. According to its architectural data, it has no analogues throughout Ukraine. The most similar to it are only two in the world and they are located on the territory of Hungary.
