Local History Museum, Myrhorod

The Local History Museum in Mirgorod was established at the very beginning of the 20th century. Its initiator and the main founder of the first collections was the historian P. Slasten. Being a native of these places, he made an invaluable contribution to the cultural development of the city.

Based on his joint work with D. Yavornitsky, who stood at the origins of the historical museum in Yekaterinoslav, Slasten created a unique exhibition of things and objects detailing the development of the region.

The place where the museum was first opened - excavations of the former  Mirgorodskaya fortress. Information about it can be found in the museum itself, it contains reliable facts about its scale, purpose and role in the history of the city.

Around the building of the museum of local lore in 2007 was opened  unusual Squarein honor of the former Cossack glory. It has large  memorial sculpture. Among them there is the figure of the Cossack himself and the legendary cannon, supposedly served as far back as the days of the Mirgorod fortress.
