Ioninsky Monastery, Kiev

Kiev Ioninsky Monastery was founded by the father of Iona. On the place where today stands the monastery, once there were shabby huts, but thanks to the monk's industriousness this place was able to transform and establish a temple here. During the life of Jonah's father the rumor about this monastery was spread all over Russia, and pilgrims came here from all districts to worship the holy places.

The story of the Monastery of Ionin begins with the prediction ofSt. Seraphim of Sarov, where Jonah was a novice for a long time. He predicted to his pupil the fate of the organizer of the monastery. Also, according to the legend, Jonah himself was repeatedly the image of the Mother of God as a sign of the necessity of building the temple.

With the improvement of the monastery of Ione, Princess Vasilchikova helped, for whom he was a spiritual father. Having sacrificed a large sum, she also engaged in a petition for the founding of the monastery of Emperor Alexander II. After the emperor gave his consent, a majestic stone cathedral with a school-shelter for boys and a hospital on its territory grew on the Zverinetskaia mountain. And although the current Ionian Monastery is fundamentally different from the old one, good deeds continue to be performed here, they help the poor and educate their children. After the death of his father, Jonah came a rather sad time for the monastery and its parishioners, but the temple was able to survive all the difficulties and continued its work.
