Transfiguration Cathedral, White Church

The history of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Belaya Tserkov is directly connected with the name of the Orthodox landowner Alexandra Vasilievna Branitskaya. The fact is that on the slope of its years the "countess-temple-maker", as it is called in archival documents, has vowed to build 12 Orthodox churches. The construction work was to be carried out exclusively at the expense of the countess, and inside the temple there should be three altars:

the main one - on the honor of the Savior, and the other two - on the honor of St. Nicholas and Prince Alexander Nevsky.

The construction of the church in the White Church began in 1833 and lasted only six years. Such a short period of time, most likely, can be explained by the fact that all the works took place in the presence of the countess-philanthropist, and most of them were completed during her lifetime. However, to see the final result Branitskaya was not destined. In 1839, the countess was gone, and her remains were kept for a long time in the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral.

The Soviet regime did not have the best effect on the fate of the temple. During this period, most of the shrines at the best became museums as exhibits, and at worst they went for melting and selling. In 1933 the cathedral ceased to function, and during the Great Patriotic War it was bombed. But in spite of everything, the church service in the walls of the cathedral still resumed, the revival of the church began in the 2000s.
