Park Birch Grove, Kiev
On Podol in Kiev, between Vyshgorodskaya and Belitskaya streets, spread out The old picturesque park, which has existed for more than a century. Until 1917 he was privately owned. In Soviet times, it was divided into two parts. In one of them, adjacent to the street Belitskaya, Podolsky district park of culture and rest is located, and the second part was given to the agrobiological station.
The Second World War did not spare the park: from the whole infrastructure there was a kino-cupboard, a building of the office and a parachute tower. However, many trees have been preserved: old elms, lindens, willows, acacias, poplars. On the street Belitskaya now goes An array of birch plantations, thanks to which the park got its name. In total, there are 45 species of trees and shrubs, but birches predominate.
The park is on hilly terrain. It resembles a forest with paths, winding serpentine. In its upper part two peaks are clearly visible, the lower part is more "cultivated", there are asphalted and tiled paths.
The main attraction of the park - house of the famous Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. It is also called "Hut on the Prier". Now in the house that served as a short-lived refuge for Kobzar, the department of the National Museum of Shevchenko is located.
Is in the park and old 300-year-old oak tree. It is believed that the great Kobzar loved to rest under him, reflecting. Oak is protected as a natural monument.
There are several functional zones in the park. One of them is the enlightenment with the "House on the Prior". There is a zone of outbuildings. For noisy children's recreation area in the central part of the park is intended. Moms with wheelchairs like to walk along the paths of a quiet rest zone (forest part on hills). There are also several cozy cafes and a cinema "Kadr".
