House Rolit
In the late 1920s, a project was created to build a multi-storey house of the cooperative workers of literature "Rolit" for 56 apartments. Only Ukrainian writers lived in the house, only about 130 writers and several artists. Writers of Kiev, following the example of their Kharkov colleagues, decided to build a house. Architectural style was chosen constructivism - fashionable at that time in Ukraine. However, the lack of money greatly changed the original look of the house, it was re-made several times, and the construction itself stopped and resumed again.
Rolit was built as an expensive elite housing. Almost every apartment had several rooms and its own telephone. Most of the apartments were two or three rooms. After some time, after the first building was commissioned, a second building was built in the classical style. Here are located more spacious four- and five-room apartments with a large office. An interesting fact is that in each apartment a room for servants was built. On the roof there was an attic - there should have been a literary cafe. Solemn delivery of apartments to writers took place in the spring of 1939. Here lived Maxim Rylsky, Ostap Vishnya, Vladimir Sosyura, Pavel Tychina and many others.
Nowadays, Rolith is an architectural monument, there are many rooms-museums of writers open, some of them have offices. The house is the absolute champion of Ukraine in terms of the number of plaques, it is worth seeing to every connoisseur of Ukrainian literature and just a traveler.
