Church of John the Baptist

The church of Ion the Baptist is located in the picturesque town of Mostyska, whose history dates back to the 11th century. Among the archival documents there are official papers confirming the existence of the town in the 11-13 centuries. Until the 1940s, these places belonged to the Polish territory, which significantly influenced the culture and religion of local residents (except for the years of the War of Liberation led by Bogdan Khmelnitsky in the 17th century).

The first mention of the church of Ion the Baptist is attributed to 1550. It was a large-scale structure with several altars, chapels and a large hall for the parishioners. The idea of ​​erecting the church belonged to the Polish king, who wished to create a real center of the Christian world for the townspeople of Moscow. The church gained unprecedented popularity, it was one of the most visited temples, which later was separated by a hedge and made the tallest building in the city.

Because of the frequent fires that regularly inflicted damage on the wooden church, it was decided to build a stone structure with an even larger area and additional two altars. In 1722 the construction of the temple in the Gothic style was completed. The church retained its pristine architecture and most of the interior decoration. The last restoration allowed to balance the surrounding landscape and the building - the color of the walls and roofs are combined with a low fence around the temple, and the green plantations on the flower beds create a magnificent background for the shrine. Near the church there is an interesting landmark - the Earl's Palace, built in 1825, and the Church of the Intercession in 1636.
