Kirkh of St. Catherine
The church of St. Catherine is an active Lutheran church-community, with a large number of parishioners of the Germans who profess evangelical views in religion. The first Lutheran community in Kiev was founded in the 18th century. In the province, at that time, there were a large number of Germans of different professions, mostly alchemists and pharmacists. They united their Lutheran approach to Christianity, which was born in the historical homeland. They held their meetings in apartments with like-minded people, and a little later they built the first wooden church. Its structure has not escaped, it is known only that it was located on Podol.
A modern building was erected in the second half of the 19th century. The style of architecture is chosen classical, in the spirit of most traditional temples of old Europe. The exterior is defined as pseudo-Roman,known for its symmetrical lines and a multi-storey roof above the main entrance. Divine services are held from 10 am, and on days of great Christian holidays, a schedule is made for different pastors. The work of the church has two directions: as a Lutheran church and a separate community. Kirkh of St. Catherine likes to visit German diplomats and foreign guests of high ranks.
Not far away it will be interesting to walk through the legendary Khreshchatyk, to see Independence Square, to visit the Holy Monastery of St. Vvedensky.
