Khreschaty (Merchant) Park

In the heart of the capital, on the European Square, there is the Khreschaty Park. This is a favorite holiday destination for Kyivans and guests of the city, a symbol of Ukraine. The park stretches along the Vladimirsky descent, on the Dnieper slopes.

The history of the park began in 1882. Then, at the request of the merchant class of Kiev, the building of the Merchant Assembly was built on the territory of the modern park. It became a favorite place of the whole Kyiv light: concerts and balls, musical evenings, concerts were given by the famous ensembles of that time. Due to its excellent acoustics, in 1923 the National Philharmonic of Ukraine was opened in the building, which is still active there. Around the meeting, parked, built a summer club and theater. Thus appeared the garden of the Merchant Assembly. For symphonic and chamber concerts, an open concert stage was created. There were many celebrities of the time, including Shalyapin and Sobinov. Every inhabitant of the city could visit the park, however, to get to the park, it was necessary to pay for the entrance. A children's ticket cost 20-30 kopecks, an adult ticket costs 40-50 kopecks.

In 1982, a monument was opened in the park, which has since been a symbol of the Khreshchaty Park - the Friendship of Peoples Arch is a symbol of the unity of Ukraine with Russia. Completes the image of the park observation deck, from where it opens a beautiful view of the Dnieper and the central part of the city of Kiev. The nearest metro stations are Maidan Nezalezhnosti and Khreshchatyk.
