During the reign of the Polish King Vladislav Jagail, in the 15th century, the Franciscan monastery was erected.
At the foot of the monastery was a lake, and not far from the castle of the king - Market Square. The underground tunnel served as a passage between the castle and the monastery. The walls of the monastery are shrouded in mystery: there is a legend that the heart of the Polish king is buried in them.
>In 1772, Poland was divided, for some time the activity of the Franciscan monastery was stopped. The church was used as a garrison prison. Under Soviet rule, the monastery suffered partial destruction, as it was used for military purposes. The holy premises became warehouse.
>Since August 1994, the monastery complex has been granted to the monks of the Studite Charter. Today it is the Holy Transfiguration Studite Monastery.
