Monument at the place of rest of Peter I
On the second day after the Battle of Poltava, Peter I rested in the house of the Cossack Magdenka, in Poltava. A century later, in 1817, in memory of this event, the first monument was built at the place of rest of Peter the Great under the project of architect P. Tarasov.
Unfortunately, to this day the original monument has not survived. The new project was compiled by the famous Russian architect and artist Alexander Brullov, brother of Bryullov. In June 1849, a new monument at the place of rest of Peter I in Poltava was solemnly opened.
In addition, in Poltava, there are other attractions created in memory of the Battle of Poltava. So, on the street of the Swedish Grave there is a reserve "The Field of the Battle of Poltava", on the Pervomaysky Avenue there is a monument to Alexei Kelin, the commandant of the fortress of Poltava. These and other attractions are often included in sightseeing routes around historical Poltava.
The monument is located not far from the Church of the Savior, at the crossroads of Spasskaya streets and the Paris Commune.
