House of the Noble Assembly

The building was built in 1810 in the style of Russian classicism. The structure is somewhat different from the rest of the buildings of the architectural ensemble. A distinctive feature is that the central six-column triangular portico of the composite warrant rests on the protruding part of the first floor where the front entrance is located. The fronton crowned the portico with a polished antique coat of arms of Poltava. Gracefulness and refinement of the building gave sculptural sculptures of two allegorical figures and vases with stucco garlands. Additional windows of the main hall were windows of the third tier.

The building housed various rooms: the deputy noble assembly, the chancellery of the provincial marshal, the provincial food commission, the public library, the provincial museum, rooms for county-level noblemen, rooms in which various exhibitions, receptions, literary and theatrical evenings, balls were organized.

The nobility meeting was a public and cultural center of the city, the questions were discussed on the adoption or exclusion of nobles, the appointment of pensions to nobles, the definition of noble children in higher educational institutions, and so on.

In the 30s of the XIX century, the first public library in Poltava worked. Since 1879 in this building there were such great figures of art as: P.I. Tchaikovsky, M.P. Mussorgsky, A.G. Rubinshtein, A.M. Scriabin, S.V. Rakhmaninov, F.I. Shalyapin, G.R. Derzhavin M.K. Bashkirtseva, G.G. Myasoedov, M.O. Yaroshenko.

In 1917 the decision of the Council of People's Commissars of Ukraine "On the abolition of ranks and civil ranks" was adopted and on February 9, 1919 the Poltava Nobility Assembly was closed.

In the 1920's and 1930's. in the building was a club named after Karl Marx, nearby - a summer cinema. In 1943, during the Great Patriotic War, the building, like some other buildings of the ensemble, burned down. The house was restored in its original form in 1945 - 1947.

Now in the building there is the Ivan Kotlyarevsky Cinema and a number of commercial organizations.
