The building of the Poltava Provincial Headquarters

The building of Poltava provincial offices was built in 1810 in the style of Russian provincial classicism in accordance with the project of architect A. Zakharov in 1803. It is part of the complex of the Round Square.

Initially, the building occupied only the central part of the section between the streets of Monastyrskaya and Oktyabrskaya, and on both sides was a brick fence with symmetrically located gates. At the beginning of the XIX century the building looked a little different - the building occupied only the central part of the current structure. The three-story house in the plan had two identical floors, and one technical basement. Only in 1866, under the project of the Kharkov architect F.I. Danilov, lateral wings were added. The exterior of the building, like other buildings of the architectural ensemble, is decorated with a six-column portico of the Doric order, as well as a wide staircase of the central entrance and cornice belts.

In the XIX - XX century. in the building housed many provincial institutions: the provincial government, the state chamber, the "Order of public charity" and the district court. In 1917, after the October Revolution, the building housed the provincial executive committee, later in 1925 - the Soviet and party organs of the Poltava region.

During the Great Patriotic War, in 1943, the House of Governor's offices, like many other buildings of the complex, was burnt. But in 1948 - 1952 years. The destroyed building was rebuilt according to the project of Poltava D.M. Golodinova, with the participation of architect E.I. Katonin and others.

Starting from 1952 and up to today the Poltava City Council of People's Deputies is located in the building.
