Ascension Church
A small picturesque town of Zolochiv is situated on the banks of the Zolochevka River, which flows in the Lviv region. The first mention of this place has survived to our days since 1442, then the city was located at the intersection of trade routes leading from Ternopil to Lviv and from Lutsk to Kolomiya.
One of the interesting monuments of the ancient architecture of Lviv is the Ascension church, built in 1726 in Zolochev. Over the long centuries of its existence, the temple suffered significant destruction. However, thanks to the restoration carried out in 1878 and 1907, the church again acquired its majestic appearance.
The temple is built in the Baroque style, its main facade is decorated with a quadrangular tower, on which are placed clocks made of hewn stone. Under the tin roof there are niches with stone sculptures. The elegant beauty of the facade is emphasized by white stone carvings and a chorus with a semicircular apse.
The church is made in a strict vertical form, the lower tier admires the exquisite pilasters of the Ionic order. No less beautiful pilasters, but already Corinthian orders, decorate the upper tier. Above the central entrance to the church you will see a balcony, with a forged baroque grille.
