Miniature Book Museum

An amazing miniature book museum is located in the small town of Gorlovka, Donetsk region. This is the only museum in Europe that not only demonstrates the printing talents of dozens of publishers, but also tells an interesting story of the development of miniature book publishing in Ukraine and the world. Its collection numbers more than 8,500 exhibits, including mini-and micro-books published in 57 countries in 103 languages.

Gorlovsky Museum of Miniature Book bears the name of the famous collector Veniamin Razumov, who after his death bequeathed all the exhibits collected for many years to Gorlovka's hometown. In 1987, fellow collectors laid in his house a small museum, which soon received the status of municipal, and 10 years later - state. And already in 2001 a unique collection of exhibits was given a new room, in which it is still stored.

An amazing exhibit of the museum visitors call the book a speck of dust. Its dimensions are 60 times smaller than the poppy seed, and on the pages there are two famous poems by the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin: "The Goblet Cup" and "Adeli". No less impressive are the ancient miniature books by Francesco Petrarca, Horace "Favorites" and an unusual size children's encyclopaedia of the late 19th century. Particular attention is drawn to reference and educational literature. Thus, the museum has dictionaries the size of 30x40 mm, intertwined with natural leather, school textbooks on geography and grammar at the beginning of the 19th century measuring 46x33 mm, original samples of children's literature from 15 countries. The museum stores the micro-books "The Bell of Freedom", "Our Father", "The Olympic Oath", "I Love You", the size of a notebook cage issued by the Munich publishing house "Waldman und Phitzner". You will see in the museum also micro-books with a size of 3x1 mm with the work of Sergei Yesenin "Behind the window a month ...". In addition, along with thousands of small masterpieces, the Gorlovsky Miniature Book Museum contains unique 15th-century handwritten prayer books. The researchers claim that they are written dead Ethiopian language on parchment.
