Lake Donuzlav is located in the western part of the Crimean peninsula and belongs to the group of the Tarkhankut lakes. It is the deepest in the Crimea, and its area is forty-seven square kilometers.

Due to its historical past and natural conditions, the Donuzlav Lake in its basin has fresh water from the north side and salty water - from the southern side. Its steep and high banks form small winding bays. At the bottom of the reservoir is a ten-meter layer of silt, which, for its medicinal properties, is comparable to that of Lake Moinaki, and is often used for medicinal purposes.

In ancient times the lake was surrounded by lush vegetation, in the nearby forests inhabited by many animals, including wild boars. Today, after visiting this amazing place, you can see many birds. Most of them chose for their nesting the northern part of the Donuzlav, where in the shallows from the bottom of the lake fresh springs are beaten. Nature lovers here will be able to see the white-winged terns, large gerbil ducks, small warbler, warbler, garden glory and magnificent purple herons.

Resting in the southern part of the lake, you can engage in fishing. On the Donuzlava, the larix, mullet, goby, barbule, horse mackerel and other sea fish are excellent. Because of the unusual vegetation, not characteristic of the flat Crimea, the northern part of the lake and the adjacent territory in 1947 were declared a reserve. The coast is covered with extensive thickets of moisture-loving plants: cattail, cane, blueberry, cane. This part of the lake is called an ecological laboratory by the scientists, located in the open air.

In the years of Soviet power, Donuzlav Lake was considered top secret. On its shores until 1994 the Crimean naval base of the Black Sea Fleet was located. It included units of fighter ships and anti-submarine aircraft. Today Donuzlav Lake and its surroundings are a great place to relax. Even in the season of storms, the waters of the lake remain calm because of the small width of the strait that connects the pond to the Black Sea.

A trip to Donuzlav is a great opportunity to relax from the city's bustle. Here, about three hundred days a year, windy, so rest in these parts is very popular among surfers. Wide sandy beaches and excellent conditions for extreme recreation like both professionals on the outer seaside, and beginners in the water area of the lake.
