St. Nicholas Church

justify; ">In Dnepropetrovsk, on the Monastery Island, known as Komsomolsky, an Orthodox church of the Moscow Patriarchate was built in honor of St. Nicholas in 1999. The Church of St. Nicholas became the winner of the contest" The Symbol of the Dnieper-2010 ", whose goal was to define the architectural symbol of the city.

According to legend, the site of the church of St. Nicholas once housed a monastery built by Byzantine monks back in 870. The name "Monastery" is associated with this. They say that in this monastery in 957 Princess Olga hid from the weather. True, these facts can not be documented: archaeological evidence of the existence of a monastery or a church has not yet been found.

Whether there was a monastery on the island or not is a matter of history, but the existence of a snow-white temple today is the merit of the Orthodox community and its rector, Protopriest Igor Sobka. When in 1996 it was decided to build an Orthodox church, it was he who led the construction. The author of the project was Dnepropetrovsk architect Igor Saenko. And a year after the construction began, the icon was brought to the temple of St. Nicholas, written in the Italian city of Bar.

May 22, 1999 in the church of St. Nicholas served the first Divine Liturgy, and in October the solemn opening of the temple. Today St. Nicholas's shrine surprises visitors of the city with its simplicity and charm at the same time. After the completion of the construction, the architect indicated that the church of the Holy Spirit in the Troitsko-Sergeevskaya Lavra became the prototype of the church. "The church is performed in the Old Russian traditions and emphasizes the spirituality inherent in Orthodox architecture," said Igor Sayenko.

Today Orthodox people come to the shrine from everywhere. Here you can pray to St. Nicholas, the revered icon of which is in the temple. You will also hear the beautiful sounds of the seven ringing tones set on the bell tower in 2001. In the end, it is here that you can remain alone with yourself and find true peace of mind.
