The monument to the first Slavic printer is a gift to the beloved city from Lviv sculptors in honor of the 400th anniversary of the beginning of printing in Ukraine. The grand opening of the monument to Ivan Fedorov took place on November 26, 1977.

According to folk legend, having received an order from Moscow to make a monument in just 2 months, the sculptors decided to save time and took as a base already cast a torso, designed for a monument to a typical Soviet soldier. Adding the head of the first printer, putting a book in his left hand and making an apron out of his greatcoat, the creators presented the city with a new attraction. Today, the monument to Fedorov is a visiting card of Lviv, and its image is found on many postcards and magnets.
