To date, the museum has more than nineteen thousand different exhibits. Visitors have the opportunity to see the ancient medical instruments that have survived to this day, various historical relics, medicinal plants used in folk medicine, chronicles, books and manuscripts of famous doctors, outstanding scientific works and the first medical textbooks. Considering museum expositions, pay attention to the letter-drawing of the firefighter - the liquidator of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which was written in the hospital shortly before his death.
The breathtaking atmosphere of the museum captivates visitors literally at a glance. The original interiors are complemented by portraits of famous scientists and doctors. A distinctive feature of the museum are dioramas dedicated to memorable events in Ukrainian medicine.
Strong enthusiasm is caused by the diorama, which is dedicated to medical care during the days of Kiev's defense in 1941. This unique structure consists of two levels: ground and underground. The first tier carries visitors to the battlefield in the daytime. After that, the light gradually fades, and tourists find themselves in a wooden dug-out, where orderlies dress up wounded soldiers.
Numerous halls of the museum are equipped with partitions consisting of paintings and rotating pylons. You will certainly be amazed by the mobile walls and picturesque installations hiding behind the curtains. Living figures of patients and doctors, made of a mixture of silicone and plastic, seem to be alive. All tours are accompanied by specially selected music tunes.
The ancient steps, which will have to climb up and down, create the impression of a complete change in the surrounding space. The museum halls will take you to different eras. You can explore exhibits that represent Scythian medicine and healing medieval healers. There are items that have come down to us since the days of collectivization and the Holodomor. The instruments used by doctors during the Great Patriotic War, as well as reminders of the Chernobyl disaster, are amazing.
The achievements of modern medical science and the works of famous Russian doctors Nikolai Amosov, Alexander Shalimov, Nikolay Strazhesko are presented separately. A painstaking scientific and collecting work on the creation of the National Museum of Medicine was awarded to the State Prize of Ukraine in 1983.
The museum is located in Kiev on Bogdana Khmelnitskogo Street, 37. You can get there by metro, you need to go to the station "University".
