Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, Chernivtsi
The Museum of Folk Architecture and Life in Chernivtsi is an architectural and landscape complex on the territory of which there are monuments of folk architecture and everyday life in the middle of the 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries. The museum consists of two ethnographic zones, it is "Khotinshchina" and "WesternPodnestrovie".Among the picturesque nature with a varied landscape, the evolution of the habitation and life of the peoples inhabiting Bukovina was recreated. Today, there are 35 public and economic buildings, a church, a bell tower, a smithy, a tavern, windmill mills and apartment buildings. The interior of the buildings has retained its original appearance, here are items of everyday life of the villagers, national clothes and decorations, embroideries, carpets and much more.
The museum is especially proud of windmills of the early 20th century, which are typical only for Bukovina. They are two-tiered, the second floor is expanded, the mill's body, along with its wings, revolves around a massive oak pillar, deeply buried in the ground. These buildings are proof of the outstanding abilities of folk craftsmen.
The museum always welcomes visitors who want to get acquainted with the traditional architecture and way of life of the peoples of the Bukovyna region.
Ethnomuseum is located in the eastern part of Chernivtsi on Svitlovodskoy Street. Nearby - the final stop of the trolleybus № 4. The museum can be visited from 10:00 to 17:00, except Monday.
