Berdyansk Local History Museum

The local history museum in Berdyansk has a long history. It was founded in 1929 a year before the founding of an art museum in the city, therefore it is the first museum in Berdyansk. For him, a mansion was chosen, in which the former city government used to be located.

During the active fighting for Berdyansk, a shell hit the building of the museum. Most  expositions were buried forever under the wreckage, only a small part survived. She was taken out to the Volga and kept there until the end of the war. In 1945, for a local history museum, a new building  in the park of Schmidt, the surviving exhibits are transported here. The house was small and could not hold the entire preserved collection, so after 13 years for the museum building a new building. The grand opening took place in 1953, it is in this house that the museum works in our days. By 1980, the number of exhibits was so great that it allowed  several thematic museums.

The exposition of the modern city museum of local lore is divided into several exhibitions: "The history of the city until the beginning of the 20th century", "Berdyansk of the times of the USSR" and the nature of the region. Also an exhibition of ethnography is opened, where samples of clothing and household items of the peoples of the Azov Sea are presented.
