History of the Belotserkov Museum of Local Lore

The museum was opened in 1924 on the initiative and with the active support of the historian and public figure S. Drozdov. The basis of the collection of the newly created museum were objects from the personal collection of the scientist. It was located in the winter palace of the Counts of Branicki. The museum opened a library, the book fund of which amounted to 7000 publications. Since 1927, the museum staff began to conduct active expedition work. In just 3 years, the number of exhibits has increased to 5,000 objects.

During the Second World War, the museum's funds were looted. In the Soviet era, the Belotserkovsky Museum of Local Lore was closed for reconstruction, which lasted about 5 years, but in 1983 it again opened its doors to visitors.

Since 2000, the Belotserkov Museum has been an important element in the scientific life of theentire Kyiv region. On its base, a variety of local history readings, conferences, meetings and seminars, as well as thematic exhibitions, are constantly held.

What you can see in the museum of local lore

Today, the museum's funds hold about 78 thousand items, which are divided into several thematic exhibitions: the nature of the region, the archaeological past, the history of Kiev region in different time periods. The pearl of the museum's collection is the Scythian sword. You can also see the unique Chernyakhov lamps, decoration and weapons. The exhibits of the times of the Cossacks (mace and weapons of heroes) are very popular. A large ethnographic collection, in which there is a collection of embroideries, towels, household items and women's ornaments, pleases the eye.

The doors of the museum are open daily (except Wednesday) from 10:00 to 18:00.
