The Anaviljanas Archipelago is a group of islands stretching in the delta of the Rio Negro River for a distance of about 90 kilometers. The islands themselves are located in the part of the river where in the rainy season its width reaches thirty kilometers.

When the water rises, about four hundred elongated islands of the archipelago form a kind of canals, covered with forests and compact floodplain vegetation. All this is the habitat of many unique species of birds, animals, rodents and insects. The archipelago was formed as a result of sedimentation and erosion (erosion) of the Guyan Upland. The total area of the islands is about 100 thousand hectares. At the moment the archipelago is listed on the preliminary list of sites under the protection of UNESCO.
