What drives thousands of people to take such a desperate step? Is it the inadequacy of the state’s economic and cultural policies? The weakness of civil society? The legal chaos in the country? The impossibility of achieving their goals? Or perhaps it’s a mental refusal to accept an independent life within their own nation?
