Katrin Mokko: “Coffee has nothing to do with it.”

Person: Katrin Mokko
Position: Singer
Under the stage lights, she merges with the microphone to form a single musical entity. Her voice is hypnotic, stirring and soothing all at once. Allow me to introduce you to Katrin Mokko – a talented singer and an appealing young woman who is easy and pleasant to be in company of.

One time, I bought some hair dye whose color was called Mokko, and I thought that Katrin Mokko sounded really nice. It has nothing to do with coffee, really.

Once I participated in activities at the House of Culture—my friend and I went there as a group. I sang and performed with rappers, and later I won one of the competitions. It was tough at first because I worked very hard, but now it’s much easier.

I think I haven’t achieved anything really remarkable yet. My dad actually heard me sing for the first time just yesterday—and he suggested that I pursue a career in singing =)

I’m just happy that people are actually listening to my songs. I don’t earn any money from them, on the contrary—I even lose money. But it’s nice to know that I have fans from other cities. I write the lyrics myself, and my many musical friends take care of the music.

Regarding concerts... People often ask, “Will people come?” After all, it’s much easier to download music online these days. Virtual reality is increasingly shaping every aspect of our lives.

As for my plans, I would like to release official albums that can be sold in music stores. Of course, in the future I also plan to go to Moscow and try my luck there.

On November 6th, my first album will be released, titled “Secret.” It contains 17 tracks, all of which are new except for one. Many of the songs are collaborations—with Nikolay Manyu, Muscle Style, Ai-Q, and Yaroslav Kardello. The album includes soul, R&B, and hip-hop styles. All the songs share the same emotional theme, expressed in different musical forms. It tells a story of love, from its beginning to its end. The last track was recorded with Nikolay Manyu; we shared similar perspectives and life experiences, so the song reflects how love evolves over time. Overall, the album turned out exactly as I had imagined it.

There will be many guests at the release event: Brainfukaz, Nikolay Manyu, Nebrosko, MS Lis. My performances will alternate with those of the guests. I’ll also reveal a little secret: I plan to hold another release event in Samara.

My hobbies are dancing and sports. I love running (with music in my ears) and dancing. Maybe one day I’ll try dancing professionally, but for now, I’m sure only that I sing well. I enjoy listening to my own songs, but I don’t pursue a career in music as a means of making money. Music is something that permeates my life, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to devote myself entirely to it… Well, we’ll see...
