Sewell is a unique city in the Andes
The Chilean town of Sewell is located at an altitude of about 2000 meters above sea level. It was built in 1905 by the mining company Braden Copper. The purpose of the construction of the city was quite simple - mining of copper ore began here.

Moreover, the El Tenente deposit, located right in the city itself, is still considered the largest underground copper mine. The city itself became the first, as an example of the construction of single-industry towns in remote places of our planet. This could not be reached by anything other than railway transport and there are no streets as such. Everything is limited solely to footpaths and stairs. It is the stairs that are the main canvas for the movement of local residents. The city grew. Here, trees were artificially planted and even several areas appeared.

At its peak, in Sewell lived more than 15 thousand people. By 1980, the last permanent residents left the city, and Sewell became temporary housing for engineers and other workers. To date, the mine continues to function, giving 3% of the world's volume, and the city itself became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
