The most isolated village in the United States
Soupai, the so-called village, located on the reservation territory of the Havasupai Indian tribe. Moreover, this reservation is located in one of the most visited unique natural places of North America, the Grand Canyon.
The Havasupai tribe lives in the canyon, at least eight centuries. And although the nearest highway is straight for a few kilometers, you can only get here by foot or by helicopter. The village of Soupai is the only place in the US where mail is still being delivered by mules. The name of the tribe translates as a people of blue-green water, according to the color of the Havasu Creek River, which flows into the Colorado River. The total number of the tribe today hardly exceeds six hundred people. The main source of income has long ceased to be precious metals and agriculture. Havasupai earns on tourism. Annually there are about 20 thousand tourists here.
