Schönborn Castle

In the small village of Karpaty there is one of the most beautiful buildings - Schönborn Castle. The palace was built in 1890-1895 on the initiative of Count Buheim Shenborn. Originally it housed a wooden summer residence of this famous family, and later was built a majestic palace, created in the style of the French Renaissance.

The construction of the castle used a popular in those days astronomical structure. The number of window openings corresponded to the number of days in the year, the number of rooms was equal to the number of weeks, and twelve exits from the castle symbolized twelve months.

The windows and doors were adorned with skilful stained-glass windows, made on the motives of biblical stories. Above the palace towered four towers, differing from each other in shape and size. Each tower was crowned with a weather vane, on which the date of the erection of the palace was carved.

The territory of the castle is surrounded by a magnificent garden, broken in the middle of the 19th century. A real garden decoration is a small lake, located among green spaces. Today in the garden you can see the rarest varieties of ornamental trees such as boxwood, Canadian spruce, catalpa, Weymouth pine, Japanese cherry-cherry, pink beech.

Currently, one of the buildings of the sanatorium is located in the old Schoenborn castle.
