Krivoy Rog Botanical Garden

Now the Krivoy Rog Botanical Garden is an object of the nature reserve fund of Ukraine of national importance, and the arboretum is recognized as the national treasure of Ukraine.

Professor Yevgeny Kondratyuk initiated the foundation of the botanical garden in Krivorozhye. The grand opening of the Botanical Garden in Krivoy Rog as a branch of the Donetsk Botanical Garden occurred in 1989. And already in 1992, an independent Krivoy Rog institution of the National Academy of Sciences was established on its base.

Despite its relatively young age, the Krivoy Rog Botanical Garden maintains an extraordinary collection of rare plants, among which about 200 kinds of medicinal plants and almost one thousand flower-decorative specimens. Here there are more than 600 species of woody and shrubby plant species, among which 120 different varieties can be found. Finally, only here you can see more than 60 species of plants listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine, and about 40 samples that are protected by the World and European Red Lists.

In Krivorozhsky botanical garden you can see the usual poppies, lilacs and tulips, as well as white katran, sun-yellow dream-grass, dwarf roosters, spring mountain and golden adonis. The garden is most striking in the spring, when more than 50 species of lilac blossom. And if you come to Krivoi Rog in the winter, you are sure to be invited to the tour by greenhouses and greenhouses, which throughout the year pleases the eye with a variety of colors and shapes of flowers and shrubs.

Special attention should be paid to the scientific activities conducted in the Krivoy Rog Botanical Gardens: they study floristic finds, document new discoveries for science, and preserve unique and not fully explored herbarium specimens. In addition, genetically selective cultivation of rare ornamental crops is carried out. In the industrial region, such research is a novelty, which opens wide prospects for scientists. Finally, workers of the Krivoy Rog botanical garden actively cooperate with both Ukrainian scientific institutions and foreign ones. Among them are the Institute of Forest Botany and Physiological Woody Plants of the University of Freiburg in Germany, the University of Texas and the University of Chicago in the USA.

The Krivorozhsky Botanical Garden is located in the Ternovskiy district of Krivoy Rog on Marshak Street, 50. To get there, it is enough to take a shuttle bus first to the "Ring of the 44th Quarter" stop, and then transfer to the transport next to the 7th city hospital .
