Putivl. Complex Sofronievsky Monastery

The unique complex of the Sofronievsky Monastery is located among the oak forest, at a distance of two kilometers from the village of Novaya Sloboda in the Putivl district. According to the information preserved in the ancient chronicles, it was founded in the distant 1405 year. Its first name - the Molchan monastery he received from the nearby impenetrable Bolt Molce.

In 1653, the monastery began to flourish, many new buildings appeared on its territory, and to avoid confusion with Putivl's Molchan monastery, it was called Sofroniev's desert. By the middle of the 18th century Sofronievsky Monastery turned into a large and complex complex consisting of cult and economic buildings.

Visit these amazing places, and you will see the surviving three land constructions: the refectory of the 17th century, the Gateway Church of the Intercession of the mid-18th century and the abbot church built in 1911. Especially impressive is the expressive silhouette of the Intercession Church. The gate church consists of two tiers, the first of which has an arch and arched doorways. The second tier of the church is a slender single-domed church, built in the Elizabethan baroque style. Its facade is adorned with magnificent platbands on the windows, curved cornices and an elegant dome.

To the left of the church, your eyes will open a rectangular enclosure of an ancient refectory located on a separate hill. This structure has an interesting system of vaulted coverings. The external appearance of a single-storey building differs from the church in its severity and conciseness.

The reverent complex, built in non-Russian style, is richly decorated. A variety of semi-columns, carved platbands and richly profiled cornices are its distinguishing feature.

However, the most interesting part of the Sofronievsky Monastery awaits you in its cellars. Several cave complexes were dug in a forest soil, like the famous dungeons of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Cave labyrinths consist of many unexplored moves, niches-arkosoliy for burial and solitary cells. The oldest caves date back to the 13th and 14th centuries, and they still store many mysteries and mysteries of history.
