Kyiv has been one of the brightest representatives of Ukrainian and world culture for centuries. In the streets of modern Kiev, among European skyscrapers, ancient structures have been preserved. The pride of St. Andrew's descent is the castle of Richard the Lionheart.
After all, it is about this place that the Kievites tell different secrets and legends.
The history of the creation of the castle of Richard the Lionheart belongs to the beginning of the 20th century. At that time, the city experienced a period of urban development and industrial tycoon Dmitry Orlov, having set himself the goal of becoming a respectable citizen of Kiev, decided to build a castle. He wanted to rent out the rooms of this building in the future. The contractor bought a piece of land in the center of the city on a mountain with the romantic name of the Soodle, now known as the Andreevsky Descent. To attract guests, the building should have an unusual style. The idea of a medieval castle Orlov "borrowed" from the architect Robert Marfeld. Construction lasted four years, and by 1905 the castle was ready. Although the building attracted tenants, they did not stay there for long. There were rumors that ghosts live in the castle. And how else could you explain the wild laughter and strange noise? These stories attracted the attention of Kiev's bohemians, and she settled in a "gloomy" castle. Ukrainian artists lived there: Photius Krasiczky, IVan Makushenko, Grigory Dyadchenko, sculptor Fedor Balavensky. On the upper floors of this building, from where a magnificent view to the left bank of Kiev opened, there were their workshops.
According to one version, the name of the castle gave the Soviet writer Viktor Nekrasovin honor of the simple, but brave man Richard Yurevich. Richard saved in the cellars of the castle of the Jews during the Second World War. Later, writer Nekrasov and the castle itself was called "Richard's castle," that is, Richard the Lionheart. According to another version, the castle is named after the English king and hero of the novel "Ivanhoe". This is not surprising, because Richard Lionheart's castle was created in the style of British neo-Gothic. In addition, it is equipped with various spiers, towers, crenellated walls. Almost every room can be accessed through a balcony, a spiral staircase or an annex. The main fortress tower can be climbed through the secret staircasehidden in the castle walls, and to the inner courtyard - through the covered gallery-staircase.
When you are in Kiev, be sure to visit Richard the Lionheart Castle. It is located on Andriivsky Descent No. 15, which can be reached by metro, going to Kontraktova Ploshcha station and passing the Samson fountain. You can also go to the station "Pochtovaya Ploshcha", then go up the funicular to Mikhailovskaya Square and continue along Vladimirskaya Street to the Andreevsky Descent.

Castle Hill is an amazing place. Today this high hill with a history of several thousand years is in utter desolation. There is nothing here except lonely trees and the remains of an ancient cemetery. But, like many centuries ago, the inaccessible slopes of Zamkova Mountain serve as an excellent refuge. Only earlier the nomads hid here from enemies, and modern Kievites - from the noise of the megalopolis.Scientists see in Zamkova Hill unforgettable Horevitsa, which laid the foundation for the city of Kiev. How to know, perhaps, in the place where today's residents are fleeing from the hustle and bustle of city life, there were three brothers and their sister, gazing intently at the horizon and imagining the birth of the great city. True or not, you can not say with absolute certainty. However, it is precisely known that the slopes of the inaccessible mountain were inhabited as early as 3 thousand BC. e.In fact, Zamkova Mountain has many names. The name "Castle" arose in the period when Lithuania infringed on the lands of Kievan Rus. In order to strengthen the city, a wooden castle was built here, which became the residence for the Lithuanian prince. For a long time this place was impregnable, but with the development of military affairs, it lost its strategic importance and began slowly to grow weed. Almost 200 years of Zamkova Mountain no one remembered until in 1840 the territory was not transferred to the possession of a convent. Later, a church was built here and a cemetery was built. To date, Castle Hill is a favorite place for mystical lovers. Perhaps someday a museum will appear here, but so far there is only ruin here.

The Church of St. Nicholas in Kadomka is a very unusual, beautiful church in the center of an ancient village. It was founded in 1851 as a central village church. For the erection of the temple was chosen a special location in the heart of the village on a small hill. The architecture of the building perfectly describes the centuries-old traditions in Orthodox Ukrainian churches. There is a wooden decor, small high windows, narrow baths of domes, sharp corners of a roof. The light green shade of the walls fits well into the garden design, which envelops the entire inner courtyard of the church.Around the courtyard is built a low white fence and a stone fence, which divides the space of the ancient temple from a modern asphalt road. The significance of the church of St. Nicholas was also emphasized during the Soviet period, as divine services were never stopped in it. The temple was and remains active, subject to the Kyiv Patriarchate.
