Monument-sculpture to Pushkin, Odessa
The monument to Pushkin has been standing since 1999. Sculpture was erected in honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the famous poet. The name of the picturesque part of the city was given in honor of the house where the famous writer lived during the 13-month referencein Odessa. In this house in 1823 Pushkin lived, immediately after his arrival. There was a hotel for several dozen rooms. The writer at that time was only 24 years old, this is how he is depicted on a monument-sculpture.
The author of the project was V. Glazyrin, the performer and genius sculptor was A. Tokarev. The protagonist was portrayed as a fashionably dressed young man with a well-recognized cylinder and a cane in his hand. The legendary cane several times became the prey of unscrupulous citizens.. The precious material the bronze from which the monument was made, repeatedly attracted hunters for non-ferrous metals. Fortunately, by the time of the next anniversary, the author created a new cane made of steel material, tightly attached to the sculpture. A monument is erected directly in front of the facade of the house, on the sidewalk, where Odessa citizens often walk. Nearby is the original monument to Isaac Babel.
