Monument to Defenders of Dnepropetrovsk
The Monument to the Defenders of Dnepropetrovsk is a large memorial composition dedicated to the dead soldiers during the defense of the city. It was opened in the presence of participants in hostilities, veterans and relatives of the deceasedin 1975. A wave of new monuments, memorials and sculptures was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Great Victory. The city, as a place of active battles during the Great Patriotic War, is overflowing with communal graves and cemeteries with Soviet soldiers.
Composition Architecture
At first glance, this is a simple monumental form of three dangling stone slabs in the air. Only being near, you can feel the whole power of this idea, its greatness and power. Sensations are created unique: large platforms are bent into a single plane, forming something painfully unhealthy, always relevant and important, like the pain of loss that every citizen experienced during uninterrupted battles for Dnepropetrovsk in 1941.
It is known for sure that on the site of the modern monument there was a cemetery, a mass grave with unidentified soldiers, hastily built by colleagues. The number of deaths in this area is still being clarified, the figure is confirmed - several hundred people. The battle took place near Dnepropetrovsk not far from the coast of Samara.
How to find a place of interest
The most accessible route to the monument to the defenders of Dnepropetrovsk lies through two well-equipped transport streets: Vorontsova Prospekt or Kalinova Street. The avenue is located at the exit from the central city bridge and connects several leading lines on the left bank. Having reached one of these streets, it is worth to move towards the street of the Journalists, then - Vinokurov Street, which flows into the Kursantov Street - it is the monument on it.
