Museum of Fine Arts. Bukhanchuk, Kmitov
The museum was founded in 1974 by a great art lover and collector Iosif Bukhanchuk. At first the museum was located in the walls of Studenets School, then a separate building was built for it. This unique rural art museum has long been the only state art museum in Zhytomyr.
The premises for the museum were built according to a special author's project, which was headed by the people's architect I. Fomin. It turned out to be very spacious, big and bright. It was designed in such a way as to make maximum use of natural light to illuminate the halls. I. Bukhanchuk collected materials for his museum for a long time and gave him 600 artifacts from his own collection. At his request, artists from different parts of the country handed over their creations to replenish the museum's expositions. In addition, 30 unique works from the Academy of Art of the USSR were transferred here. Also many famous artists from other countries gave him their works. Soon the collection of the museum was already about 3 thousand copies of famous works of art. Basically, the works are presented in the style of socialist realism.
In 1985, a new building for the museum was opened, for the year of its operation the museum was visited by about 40 thousand visitors. Now it presents original works by various artists, such as S. Chuikova, V. Oreshnikov, T. Yablonska, N. Glushchenko and others. In addition, the museum exhibits a separate exhibition dedicated to the arts and crafts and the art industry of Ukraine. Here you can see works from ceramics, crystal, there are tapestries and other equally interesting materials. The museum has 10 rooms, they occupy an area of 1500 square meters. Now the museum is open to all comers, and various events and exhibitions are held there.
