The village of Verkhovna in the Zhytomyr region 400 years ago was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The first mention of the settlement with the name Verkhovnya is in 1600.

It is known that in 1753 Prince Lubomirski transferred the right to own the village and the adjacent lands of F. Skorunsky. Later, his daughter married Jan Gansky. After the death of the Gansky, the owner of the lands was their son Vaclav.

There are two attractions in the village of Verhnya that attract tourists. One of them is a granary. The stone building along Lenin Street was erected in 1913 and is considered an architectural monument. Near the building of the granary there is another building of the same time in which the instruments for farming were kept.

The second landmark of the village is the Gansky estate. The house in the Empire style has survived to this day, now it has a museum of Balzac.
