Church of the Nativity of Christ, Shostka
The Church of the Nativity of Christ is considered the oldest building in Shostka's . Since the beginning of its construction in 1779, the construction of the town went full swing. In the construction of the church, money was invested by employees of the powder factory, which was nearby, so sometimes the church is called Zavodskaia. It was opened in 1785. The bell tower was built in 1809. At the same time, the church itself was expanded. On the church square from now on, various city celebrations took place: celebratory services, solemn processions.
Since 1917, it was called the Church of the Nativity of the Red Army. In 1928 it was closed and the dome was removed. Also, burned icons and all church equipment. During the Great Patriotic War, with the German authorities, the church was operational until the invaders were released. In the post-war years there was a soldier's club, and then there was a cinema.
In 1993, the first liturgy was held under the walls of the temple in the annexed building. The church was rebuilt and on July 26, 2000 was consecrated by the bishopKonotop and Glukhov Innocent.
