The Holocaust Museum in Kharkov
The Kharkiv Museum of the Holocaust became the the first museum in this area in Ukraine. The opening of took place in 1996. The basis for the creation of the museum were documents and materials collected by the Kharkiv regional committee "Drobitsky Yar", as well as the family archive of the founder of the museum Larisa Volovik. The first excursion took place in December of the same year, since that time the museum began to act as the center of the spiritual life of the Jewish people of the city.
The whole exposition is divided into several rooms, each of which has a certain theme. The first hall is the hall of the memory of the deceased, photographs and personal belongings of those Kharkiv citizens who were the victims of one of the main tragedies of the 20th century. The second is the hall of those people who could survive these dark pages of modern history. Particular attention should be paid to the third hall of the museum, because here are collected things that survived their owners. The pre-war life of people is represented by objects and photographs, each of which has its own tragic and even a terrible story. A separate place is occupied by the documents devoted to the first in the history of the trial of the case of war criminals, which was held in Kharkov in 1943. There are also expositions "The Place of the Jews of Kharkov in the Fight against Fascism" and thematic exhibitions of some outstanding people of the city.
Public organization "Kharkov Museum of the Holocaust" includes the museum itself, the scientific and educational center, the gallery "Ami" and the newspaper "Digest E". The museum is very popular among visitors, who are not only representatives of different peoples, but also of different ages and religions. Every tourist in the museum will learn something new, previously unexplored.
