Church of St. Demetrius, Stetskova

The village of Stetskovka in the Sumy region was founded by the Cossacks and received its name in honor of the Sumy ataman Stetsko. Initially, there was no clergyman in the Cossack encirclement, if necessary, the residents turned to the other village for help from the clergy. It was not always convenient.

After a while, the idea arose to erect a church in Stetskovka.

At the beginning of the 18th century a wooden church was erected, named after St. Dimitry Myrrh-Streaming. After 100 years the landowners Savici allocated funds for the construction of a stone church. In 1846 the construction was completed and the temple was consecrated. The church is an excellent example of the classical style with a single large dome and a perfect example of a classic style.

During the Soviet era, the church was abolished, and the building was given under a granary. The services were resumed during the Second World War. In 2002 the cathedral was restored. The temple still works today, the services are held in the usual way.
