Bridges of Preobrazhensky
Bridges of Preobrazhensky are two bridges across the Dnieper in Zaporozhye. They connect the two banks of the city, as well as the island of Khortitsa. Bridges are cultural monumentsof Ukraine, as well as monuments of town planning of local significance.
Construction was carried out from 1949 to 1952 on the site, where the old bridges were located, which were destroyed during the war. The main architect was Boris Preobrazhensky. There is a legend that after the construction the party requested lists of builders who distinguished themselves when creating the bridge. For some reason, the name of Preobrazhensky was not among them. Learning about this, the architect could not bear such a blow and died of a heart attack. Subsequently, a decision was made to immortalize the author's memory in the titleof new designs.
The material for the construction was chosen not by chance, since in the post-war period there were problems with iron in the country, the decision was made to create a structure from monolithic reinforced concrete. The architecture of the bridge is no different from those that were destroyed. The main decoration is 4 arches above the Dnieper.
On the bridges of the Transfiguration there are roads for cars, railways, and there are pedestrian paths. The construction did not take into account the current load that bridges are subjected to, therefore the authorities of Zaporozhye plan to build new bridges near the bridges of Preobrazhensky. /pages/2014_09/ace9173c486a20e0a316e579ce14179a.jpg "alt =" Bridges of Preobrazhensky " title="Bridges of the Preobrazhensky ">
