Fort North Balaklava, Kefalo-Vrisi
Fort "North Balaklava" is located in the Kefalo-Vrisi tract of the Balaklava district on the slopes of the same mountain. Its height above sea level reaches 212 meters, which is due to the appointment of this historic structure.
History of Fort "Northern Balaclava"
Fort "Northern Balaklava" was erected to protect two cities - Balaklava and Sevastopol from the land. The author of this project, as well as the entire fortification line in the area, was the well-known military engineer V. N. Polyansky.
The construction of the fort dates from 1912-1915. The structure of the structure is a whole system of fairly deep and long ditches, cut down with a certain sequence in the rock. Some of these ditches have concrete walls (fully or partially). Their maximum depth in places reaches up to 3 meters, and the extent - up to 2 kilometers.
Dungeon Secrets
The eastern and western ditch joins a concrete tunnel. Inside it is equipped with bunks (240 pieces) and mines with special stairs, along which you can get to the surface of the earth. In addition, all the walls of the underground tunnel have ventilation holes.
During the Second World War, the underground part of Fort Severnaya Balaklava was used by the Germans, for their intended purpose, as a hospital. Proof of this are the remnants of hanging beds that have survived to the present day. At different times on the territory of the fort air bombs were tested, weapons and ammunition were stored.
Today Fort "North Balaklava" is a legendary building, attracting extreme tourists from all corners of the country and not only. Most of its fortification structures, including the tunnel, retained their former appearance, being silent witnesses of the events of the past.
