Krestovozdvizhenskaya church, Lutsk
The Cross Exaltation Church, erected as a defense, appeared in Lutsk in the 17th century. The brotherhood of the same name built it on the funds of the Ukrainian patron of the arts, Gal'shka Gulevichevna, who was a member of it together with other Volyn noblemen.
The main temple of the Lutsky Brotherhood was built of wood, making a three-cube with three domes. Alas, the temple failed to fully preserve the appearance, which he had in his heyday. The wooden church in the early 18th century was damaged by fire. Therefore, it had to be dismantled to the altar part. The surviving tree was sold for building materials.
The rebuilding of the church was possible only after a few decades. It has found new, more modern forms. There was a chapel, a hospital, a school, a monastery. The temple was crowned with a dome, and its walls were painted by the master images of the old Holy Cross Church.
The building that can be seen now is made of stone and has a rectangular shape.True, the wooden slate with its armature frieze managed to survive. The dome is made of bricks and has six ribs, which are decorated with exquisite stucco. Today in this temple services are conducted by priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate.
