Sumskaya Street, 6.
One of the oldest buildings on Sumskaya Street. According to the information in Leibfreid A.Y.’s catalog, the three-story building at number N6 was constructed in 1879 according to the design by architect B.S. Pokrovsky for Lyssikov.
In 1912, the building was renovated in the Art Nouveau style and extended by two additional floors, designed by architect B.N. Korenenko for I.I. Freiman.
On the first floor, there are commercial spaces with large display windows. The walls of the two upper floors are decorated with strips of glazed colored ceramic tiles. The spaces between the windows on the fourth floor are framed by pairs of columns, while the fifth floor is a penthouse.
Like many other old buildings, this structure fell into disrepair by the end of the Soviet era in our country’s history.
After extensive renovations, the building once again adorns the beginning of Sumskaya Street, just as it used to.
Above the windows are female sculptures placed on consoles that resemble women’s masks.
