The Svalbard Global Seed Vault, which was opened in February 2008, is the largest seed bank in the world.3 photos
The so-called “Armageddon Vault” is located in a cave embedded in rock at a depth of 120 meters and at an altitude of 130 meters above sea level. The interior of the vault is cooled to a temperature of -18°C in order to prevent the seeds from aging. This vault in Spitsbergen is considered the most secure and well-designed of all those existing on Earth, and scientists claim that it will remain intact even in the event of global warming.
